ABOUT ME

I am a highly successful communications and public relations professional with a 20+ year track record of success in conceiving, developing, and executing upon effective communications and publicity strategies.

As a media relations officer at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) I helped contextualize and promote the work of key litigation projects following the events of 9/11 and passage of the controversial Patriot Act.

I was directly involved in developing the Know Your Rights campaign which launched as a direct response to unlawful actions by authorities targeting largely immigrant communities.

In 2010, as a public relations officer with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, I deployed to Haiti in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake to assist with relief efforts and gather multimedia assets and first-person accounts to support an emergency fundraising appeal.

I was directly responsible for securing a $1M gift for the U.S. Fund from the 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East for the earthquake emergency relief.

As a communications & public policy manager at Lighthouse Central Florida, I provided the communications and advocacy strategy for the Florida Association of Agencies Serving the Blind (FAASB) aimed at helping pass comprehensive, regulatory state legislation governing the operation of transportation network companies (TNCs) operating in all 67 Florida counties.

The legislation cracked down on discriminatory practices by TNC drivers and offered protections to passengers living with a disability and traveling with a guide dog.

The legislation also cleared the way for a pilot project between ride-share companies and the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) to offer on-demand para-transit services.  I ghost wrote opinion pieces and placed stories in multiple top tier media outlets.

I am especially interested in issues at the intersection of art and activism. I am deeply passionate about social justice, disability rights, authentic corporate social responsibility, diversity/equity/inclusion (DEI) and other issues impacting BIPOC and historically marginalized communities.

I'm a member of the national Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the local Orlando, FL chapter.

I am a Florida Supreme Court certified County Mediator, and also the recipient of the Karen Plunkett Memorial Scholarship for certification in Leadership Practice at the Rollins College Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership.
